Hi all...
Simple little tournament here. It's double elimination, which means that every player that gets knocked out once has to be knocked out a second time before they're totally eliminated. Every player starts out in the winners bracket, and then when you get beaten, you drop down into the losers bracket. To keep it really short and sweet to encourage lots of participants , games in the winners bracket are first to 2, and games in the losers bracket are first to 1. There will be minor alterations to this, and those will be explained.
All my usual rules from other tourneys apply too, and I'll post them in due course, as well as one or two special rules for this tourney. But for now, remember this:
- first to 2;
- if you lose, you're still in the competition, and it's first to 1 for you
Entrants, folks?

More info is at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Double-elimination_tournament
It becomes like two separate competitions at its widest point, and that's why I've made the games so short.

Nope!!!
All you gotta realise is that if you lose by the usual 2-0 or 2-1, you're not knocked out yet, and you'll be playing other opponents to win (usually) 1-0.
On that note, I'll say that if you meet a player who's already beaten you, you must win 2-0. They only have to win one frame against you (1-0 or 1-1), however. That complicates things a little, but in practice it's straightforward.

Here's a (small) mock example of it in action with 8 participants from A-H. Participants in bold are unbeaten; participants in italics are not or have just lost. Otherwise, participant is eliminated.
Round 1
A beats E
B beats F
C beats G
D beats H
A, B, C and D remain are in Winners' bracket
E, F, G and H drop into Losers' Bracket
Losers' Bracket - Round 1
E beats F
G beats H
F and H are out
E and G remain in competition
Winners' Bracket - Semifinals
A beats B
C beats D
A and C remain in Winners' Bracket
B and D join Losers' Bracket
Losers' Bracket - Round 2
B beats G
H beats E
E and G are out
B and H remain in competition
Losers' Bracket - next round
B beats H
Winners' Bracket - final
A beats C
A is only unbeaten team
C joins Losers' Bracket
Losers' Bracket
B beats C
That leaves A (unbeaten) and B (lost one game), and they will play off
until only one has lost one game, either by A beating B once or B beating A twice.
Here's a nicer looking example:

cloone - why make it really confusing when you can do it like what I do in my comp?
mine isnt 'real' DE, but basicly if you lose first round - you are in the second competition.
And then if you lose from the second round onwards; then you are permanatley out until next season.
Ill join.

Yip... But there's:
Matt's American Table League
Familyguy's League
Handicap 9-Ball League
Funky Individual Leagues '09
Deceiver's 8 Ball UK League
Warney's Event
Indivdual Season
6 Nation Championship League
That's 8 different active competitions with God knows how many competitors (I didn't go in and count - not like me! ). Not really room for another, is there?
I wonder what's the reason behind the recent surge in forum events?

Well for a while, it was just my Individual League (FL09) and Yoda's All Style Leagues.
Then Funkypool v Funkysnooker came in - great idea. But then all these other people wanted to have thier own competition and didnt care how many others were around.
Many of them are the same as something else - or very similar...there is a competition that has a name similar to mine
But with competition, someone goes out of business sooner or later. As long as thats not me - I dont care.
Apart from the Snooker v Pool comp (and without trying to be cocky), I think I may have one of the best set up comps.

Ya, no problem, all participants will be messaged
Rules, with the more important ones in bold
- US 9 ball
- Open draw double elimination knockout
- The draw may be manipulated in later rounds to ensure an even spread of byes in the case of disqualifications
- The draw may be manipulated to keep potentially unreliable players apart
- Games in the winners' bracket are first to 2; games in the losers' bracket are first to 1
- Where possible, players who have played each other in the winners' bracket will be kept apart in the losers' bracket
- Players may be readmitted into the tournament under conditions described at http://www.funkypool.com/viewTopic.do?topicid=12600&page=1
- Reliable players only!!!
- Players must post here themselves to enter; if they haven't got posting rights for whatever reason, tough
- Players who deactivate or get banned might not be automatically allowed back in
- Rules may change in extreme circumstances
- The winner: When one player (unbeaten) remains in the winners' bracket and one player remains in the losers' bracket, they will play first to 2.
-- If the unbeaten player wins this, that player is the champion.
-- If the unbeaten player loses this, both players will have lost one match. The winner will then be decided by one final match, first to 2 again.
Sounds complicated, but simple in practice. Just keep winning!!!
