I have noticed that ever since 8ball and 9ball was introduced, people rarely seem to play 8 and 9ball pro anymore. Obviously 8 and 9 is much easier than the pro tables, although surely pro is more of a challenge. I find it frustrating when wanting a game on pro tables, waiting ages for a game. When you look to see who is on these tables, you rarely see more than 3 names. Maybe the points gained for a win should be increased as it might encourage people to start playing again. Just an idea.

I agree, the pro games have really declined in popularity since it's younger and easier games came in.
People still adore them, but will they really be deleted in future...ask the ladies and gents at top of the leaderboards!
lol.

What is the point in deleting them? They are preferred by the better players, surely that says it all.

and how am i supposed to get on the overall leaders table if they stay?

I think the suggestion made on the other thread of removing them from the current verall rank system is a good one.
No need to lose them altogether (yet) but it makes sense for them to have thier own ovferall table.

without these tables it wouldnt be an overall table as an overall table includes every game type

Well, the 5 game structure wasn't intended to be permanent.
As you can see from the breakdown Nick gave ( http://www.funkypool.com/viewTopic.do?topicid=9017&page=6 ) there is no doubting the popularity of the new games.
Therefore it is only fair for the majority of users to be able to get into the overall table without being forced to play the two least popular games.
As i said in the original thread, i'd like to see the old games stay in some form, but sentimentality means nothing in the face of the facts.

I love logical, well constructed counterpoints.
Regarding the "overall rank" issue; Don't forget the inverse is true for those of who only play the old games.
Why should you have to play the game versions you dont like either? The "pro" games can have thier own, seperate, overall rank tables.
This seperation would help add to the challenge. Get to the top of the standard games tables, then see if you can move on to top the pro ranks as well. (as mentioned before, i think a "pro" UK game using the arcade snooker table as a base would be quite popular)
I'm trying to suggest a practical scenario where the games can be retained, and thier popularity hopefully increased.
At the moment, other than sentimentality, there isn't much of a case.

i think spinner has a great point about the seperation of the pro games of the overall ranks board and here's another thing do we really need another new game bringing in before we know it most people will be saying change the uk 8 ball original game.

But isnt it if you only play ONE pro ranked game (of 8 and 9 ball), then your ellegible to go on the overall rank?
I say keep it for that but eleminate them from the tournament line up. Yes, everyone plays the pro tournaments but I bet you that 80-90% of players would prefer to play the newer games!!

OK OK I'm totally with you all if the idea is just to take the pro ranks away from the overall rank because to be honest, overall rank isn't a stat I've ever paid much attention to anyway so it doesn't bother me either way. All I'm doing is making sure that whenever a topic seems to question the existance of the pro games that I'm there to defend them!

Spinner I know you like referring to this break down but please also bear in mind that there are plenty of people like myself who would play more pro games if there were more people in the rooms when you're looking for a game so we end up settling on 8 or 9 ball. Also when there is a pro tournament going on or just about to start there is more activity in these rooms but seeing as these only happen early afternoon when most of us are busy at work or college, or in the early hours when most of us are asleep it's hardly fair!

myfriendfats - i know you're very passionate about the games, and believe me, so am i.
This is why, if you read the whole of my posts, i am trying to suggest scenario's with which the old games could be ressurected.

Yeah I know, but you did say "No need to lose them altogether (yet) " (hence my previous post) and not for the first time you've linked the break down in %ages to show how little they're played which is why I had to say what I did in my last post!
By the way, what's wrong with the word balls? Surely it's an important word on a pool site!
