i think that that the shot time should be 10 seconds so that then the game is quicker! and it should always be a race to 1 in us 9 ball and in all the 8 ball's should be a race to 2 and have a shot time of 20 seconds!

the speed tournaments are 10 seconds and all the 8 balls are already race to 2 wins

I like the speed tournys because they are fun but to elaborate on sniper_singhs comments:

- the speed tournys race to 1 means anyone can win and the best player is only slightly above 50-50 to succeed

- for 9 ball to be fair it should be at least a best of 5 because the games are so quick anyway and it gives the better player a chance to come out on top

- 8 ball is a highly tactical game and a 10 second shot rule would ruin it for the better players who study the lay of the balls before making an informed shot choice

I'm thinking actually that a good idea would be for every player in US 8 ball to have one time out per game so they can study for a bit longer rather than rush a difficult shot

I think the whole set up is fine as it is!

And i don't think the time out would be a good idea, if your that good, you can read the table with the time you have, you can also improvise and do shots others can't if you play at a good standered. Just ask some of the good players.

slightly off topic: but to be honest, and no disrespect to anyone who has a million tournament wins (john! :-P) but winning a tournament means nothing on funkypool anymore

i've won one ever, but that was when they counted. there's too many going on nowadays, there used to be four a day! everyone used to log in, so you'd always play the best players and it meant something when you won.

i see players on here with 200+ tournament wins. that's ridiculous! i say cut the number of tournaments in half, at least!

Nah jake, your talking poo again son!

You get to play the best in tournies Jake. You try beating quick_pot! There are just alot more players on FP now, so to accomodate there has to be more tournies. Even in the mornings now there are great players due to the amount of people joining from USA?Australia!

Plus, your crap, that's why you've only got one tourny win!

A bit off topic as well, but i'm interested in myfriendfats views of the games.

I always consider the 8 ball games as "knock abouts" but 9 ball as the truely tactical game.

Just goes to show why pool games are so popular i guess!

Well my view is that 8 ball you can hit-n hope and you have a 50-50 chance of potting the right ball, ad minimal chance of snookering someone. 9 Ball however, you dont get down to those odd's till there are only 2 balls left!

In answer to your point spinner - yes in 8 ball you can smash them up when it's still an open table but you'll be very unlucky if it ends up being your last shot either by sinking the 8 or leaving your opponent a chance to clean up. I tend to have method in my madness ie seemingly hit and hope but have some idea of one of the ways the shot can work out to my advantage before I hit it.

The luck in 8 ball which is annoying is when you carefully wait for the opportunity to clear up by positioning your balls in good positions and keeping it tight only for the opponent to smash them everywhere and leave your balls all blocking each other and his in the open!

I love playing 9 ball but it's far easier to be the better player and come away losing than in 8 ball because all you've gotta do to win is sink the 9. You need more games to get a true reflection where generally in 8 ball the best player wins 95% of games first to 3.

My comment about the time out was mainly thinking about the shot immediately after the break off in 8-ball i.e. where the decision to go for solids or stripes can be critical and requires thought to see where the problems lie ahead.

Anyway, I do love playing 9-ball and appreciate the skill. I can't believe I've only had a couple of run outs in all my games, that shows that it's not a sinch!

(I've had loads in practice though but haven't we all?)

All valid points myfriendfats.

Sniper_singh - the pockets on the US tables are just like real US tables, sharp and not curved.
