SOmetimes when Im playing 8 or 9 ball, US style, when ever there is a random shot penelty, sometimes the machine does a legal shot and sometimes it hits your ball that u actuly wanted in that spot, making an easy shot, a hard one

So to avoid anymore of this and to save a few seconds of time, insted of a random shot, mabye the ball should just go blank so the opponett can just put the ball down and not 1 ball has moved

Obviously, u cant do this in the UK game but for the the US games, i like my idea!!

JUST THEN. I had a random shotm (im buisy) and the random shot put a ball in legaly!!

I can see both points of view.

But surely a player should not gain any sort of advantage by not taking a shot!

Exactly right x_rach_x. At the end of the day, unless a player is VERY bad (like me) you are unlikely to be in a worse position after a random shot than after a real shot.

The random shot is not intended as a ounishment, its just a way of keeping the game going.

But once a shot has been taken and fouled, the ball just goes into the other persons "hand" to put down anywhere!!

Im saying, forget doing the shot, when the clock runs down to zero, the ball goes into the opponetts hand straight away

But thats effectively awarding a foul when none has been commited.

People can miss shots for all sorts of reasons outwith thier own control, lag being a prime example.

Maybe a foul hasn't been committed, true, but don't forget that the player who takes too long is being punished (by a random shot), so that must count as doing something wrong.

In-off, hitting wrong ball, etc: fouls against the rules of pool
Taking too long: time foul
Why not give them the same punishment? And maximise (and perhaps regularise) the punishment against the time-waster.

But the point is, they are not necessarily wasting time. Back wheni had my bad lag problems, it was common for the table to only update after i had recieved one or two time penalties.

As i said before, its meant to be a way of keeping the game going, not a punishment as such. (correct me if i'm wrong Nick!)

It appears on the screen as a
'Random Shot Time PENALTY'. Oxford English Dictionary: Penalty - a punishment for a crime or offence.

As for a random shot leaving you no worse off than a real shot... I've never cleared the table with random shots, except maybe accidentally cleared it of the black.

So, my friend, I think, as the old Shetland-Viking saying goes... 'You're having a laugh mate.'

I meant "you" as the opponent (who was posting in this case).

To clarify - the opponent of the player who has a random shot taken is unlikely to be worse off than if that shot had been taken by the player themself.

Thanks for pointing out the penalty definition

Ah, I see! Sorry then. I thought you were having a PM moment

Ref this thread - I like the random shot penalty as it is, and I think it works perfectly.
