It doesn't matter how good a console is on paper, the best is always the one with the best games, which are mostly made by 3rd parties. PS1 & PS2 were way ahead of the competition. Too early to say yet for this generation. I will say though, that not one game on PS2, X-Box or Gamecube even came close to Syphon Filter 2&3 on PS1, and I'm not expecting anything better from Sony, Nintendo or Microsoft this gen.

But personally Syphon Filter never ever got anywhere near Perfect Dark on the N64.
I used to be a proper Sony Fanboy ( I even had a Minidisc player), but how things have changed. I never got on with the gamecube and the Ps2's controller really annoyed me so on that front i would have to say neither and Xbox would take it.
I think Nintendo have got it with the added level of interactivity the wii has given users though.
For now i'll say Nintendo have returned to form.

PS2 controller was annoying??? It was the same as the PS1 dual shock pad. I found the X-Box controller pretty much unusable with some games (Pro Evo for example). Can't understand why they put the black and white buttons where they did. They did the same job as L2 and R2 on the PS pad, except you cant use them at the same time as other buttons (which you usually need to) unless you take your other thumb off the stick. It was too bulky too. Triggers were a good addition though.
I forgot about Perfect Dark. It was no SF3 though.

The problem with the ps2 pad was that i couldn't get to the other buttons on the right if i was using it as the throttle. So trying to keep the power down on a corner and looking behind me became impossible.
Whereas the sensitivity of the trigger meant that it was far easier on the heXbox.
Which Xbox pad do you mean? The little one or the original that needed its own postal code?
I found them both ok, but the little one was perfect for me.

I still say Nintendo!
We have had most of the consoles that they have made...(cant remember what the first one was called that we had! but i thought it was great!)
then we had the N64 and the Gamecube! loved em both...we got the PS1 too, but i still think Nintendo wins!

The only thing Halo is good for is some quick multiplayer action after a night in the pub. Quake 2 is streets ahead of that piece of junk. Massively overrated. Which James Bond game do you mean? I'm hoping Goldeneye on N64, all the others are rubbish. The standard of games seems to be going down overall these days (although simulations such as Forza Motorsports are improving). When was the last time we saw anything as good as Resident Evil 3 or Metal Gear Solid?

how about resident evil 4? It depends what kind of games you like - Halo 2 had a wea single player, but the multiplayer more than makes up for its shortcomings. Hopefully more of the same from halo 3 (Q3/Q4 2007 )

I was referring to the pad that needs to be airlifted through your roof because it won't fit through the front door. It's more the way the buttons are layed out though than the size. If I'm playing Pro Evo on PS2, when I get through on goal, pressing square with a tap of R2 performs a neat little lob over the advancing keeper. On X-Box, you need to press the black button which is near impossible as you need your thumb to press the shoot button. 6 buttons for 1 thumb is far too much, whereas 2 back buttons for 2 fingers, with only 4 controlled by your thumb works nicely.
Isn't rear view almost always one of the back buttons on PS2?

I was disappointed with RE4 after playing 2 and 3. Even Survivor was better in many ways.
Wasn't impressed with either of the Halo games, and I do like 1st person shooters. Quake 2 is still one of the best out there, and I'm a big fan of the Medal Of Honor series (especially Frontline which possibly has the best opening mission of any game ever). I think the Halo team went big on graphics and forgot about gameplay.

Most of the time its Triangle. With the back buttons being gear change, handbrake and if the game has it. Only one game I've played has had the L1 as look behind.
On the little Xbox pad I've learnt to use the base of my thumb for the white and black buttons so that doesn't affect me at all. I see your point though.
doesn't compare to the N64 controller...
Inaccessible D-pad anyone?

I reckon a PS3 controller with X-Box triggers would be pretty damn good.

the 360 controller is probably the best 'standard' controller, though the Wiimote is the best out of all of them. The PS controller is just a rip off of nintendo

Hang on, the X-Box 360 controller feels almost exactly like the PS2 pad. The only real differences between the two are the triggers and the position of the left analog stick.
