Good idea but my finding with polls on forums is that they must be limited to one poll per day, approved by mods.

Otherwise all good debate which may benifit the site is replaced by a rather meaningless (for most subjects) set of numbers..

Polls are a good idea because you get public concensus in a quick and easy way.
I would only allow members who have been on the site for say 3 months vote though.
The results of the poll don't need to actually replace debate or be the final word on a subject, but they give people who don't like debating on the forum a voice.

Having numbers represent opinion is often of much greater use than pages and pages of written word. If polls were introduced then you can see at first glance what the majority think on a given subject and if the individual feels strongly enough about a subject then they can add a comment also.

Obviously, the polls can be misused like anything and there will be a number of irrelevant polls created at first, but with moderators editing and deleting regularly this can be reduced greatly.

By adding a separate forum just purely for polls then it keeps it from messing up other places and are easily accesible.

Can i just ask whats a poll?

A poll is a thing people have to decide something over a vote.
