Does anyone know the start up costs of creating a website?

More business based than entertainment based such as this if that makes any difference. For a small retailer.

I will be grateful for any help anyone can give me

you need to be specific on what you want to use the site for.

Sports clothes retailing. All done online by using a shopping cart system and it is then posted to the customer. Needs to display the products that are on sale, info about the firm and various other details that you find on similar websites.

Well, too late i guess, but if its any help, but the few commercial sites i did simply used paypal to conduct the transactions and ran the site on a simple xml database.

It did mean for manual updating in the event of cancelled orders, but paypal's buisness rates a re quite reasonable, certainly comparible to the banks services.

Hosting etc is very cheap nowadays, but i dont think thats what you meant!
