To be serious about the subject - just play, dont be atall fussy about who you are playing.

There is a tendency to think you need to avoid newbies etc, however proportionally you are risking no more rank playing a newbie than playing someone of the same rank as yourself.

The main thing is, dont become obsessed! If you ignore your rank and just enjoy the game (regardless of whether you win or loose) you will soon have a good ranking. Then whether you want to invest the time and dedication required to move up to the virtuoso level is entirely up to you..

Just play simple dude.

Spinner just summed it up with enjoyment. If you play for fun, you will do better ranking-wise in the long term than someone desperately trying for points and taking every defeat like a shot in the head. Those peoples' morale soon sinks, they become convinced everyone else is lucky, and they bring the defeats on themselves.

Don't get bitter about losses/luck and just remember this is leisure and it's the rest of life that's a bit serious.

Sure, the practice table is fine, but if you just want to improve your rank, as the subject suggests, then only play ranked games and learn during them..

Only if you move the balls into an easier shot. I would use it to train myself to take difficult shots.

Well, whilst that may seem like a good idea, its not good practice for the unpredictable nature of a real game.

I think we all accept that ususally its the easy ones you miss! So you need to practice them too....

yer, i agree about the easy shots being missed spinner, thats how i lost my 4th game, but its only a game, people are here for fun not to become obsessed, (i hope). Also i agree with martin, people do seem to think everybody is lucky when they lose, its nice when people lose without getting in a rage over it, like when i beat somebody 90-3 she didnt moan.

I got beaten 25-5 and got really angry. And im not surprised about the girl not complaining........
