Right , My comp just told me to uninstall norton 2006 version and to re-install it? Just wondering where ( once i've un-installed it ) do i get it back ? and does anyone know any other good Internet security e.g Mcafee?

( not totally gd with fixing comps so if anyone has norton 2006 can you tell me how you un-install or is this the same as deleting?)

norton only allows you to use your licences code about 4-5 times so you can use it again, it might say that its allready been used so disconnect your modem when it says to connect to there server, doing this will result in a fault which will then allow you to put the code in yourself. then run updates 2-3 times and you will be ok, if all fails mcfee is crap easy to hack, so i recomend avg (its free). also get a decent firewall( not zone alarm). hope this helps you

Good advice on the AVG front (did you get it sorted Set?) Cityfan84 - however its important to add that if you have windows XP you already have the best software firewall there is, just make sure windows is updated..

Right , I've just un-installed Norton 2006 ( finally!) and not done anything since at this moment in time. My comp is running much faster now norton's not here BUT.... I'm pretty sure i need to install this Avg before long. Spinner , just on a note.. the Windows firewall which is already installed for Xp users like myself. How do you "check" it's working. Where is the actual windows programme itself? Does this firewall have an ad-blocker in use as well?

Before i do anything i would really hope my comp is as fast as it is now ( without any norton or Avg in place currently) as it will be when i have Avg installed.

Last word , on the Avg lin you gave me Spinner. What bit do i need to click to download the software?

And to explain the speedness of my comp:
Turns on/off quicker when restarting e.t.c
Loads the pages up
Doesnt pause
Can have multiple windows and Options up . eg windows messenger without affecting the speedness of the above 3!
BUT...
It's funkypool itself which is the downfall , The game's running slowly and having lag from time to time. Just wondering if an ad-blocker can actually improve anything. ( obv We cant post here but in the game someone could tell me , and if it's available through windows firewall that'll be great!)

Can my comp be protected from windows firewall alone. As if so this would be the faster option i think.

Look for your local Area Connections at the bottom of your screen. Right click this select "open Network connections" once this is open look at the left hand menu. At the top left it should say "Network tasks" in a drop down menu. Make sure the arrow is pointing up. In this there should be an option called "Change windows Firewall Settings" click this and then you can view the status of your firewall.

Do NOT download AVG from anywhere except Grisoft.com. It will be wildly out of date!

If you have windows XP, go to the control panel and select security centre, there you will see if your firewall is working.

As for anti-spyware (or malware, to give it its correct term), nothing comes close to Microsoft Defender, go to Microsoft.com and you cant miss it.

However i wouldnt worry about spyware, get he antivirus up and running. I regularly deal with virus eradication but have yet to encounter a piece of spyware (except Firefox!)

Ok thnks Spinner for that it says i have a firewall ON a automatic update system ON but no virus protection. So this avg i will need to install. Will this avg make my comp any slower LIKE the norton anti virus set-up did. I really hope not! As soon as i un-installed the norton the speed rocketed. The Avg should just keep my comp speedness the same , right?

Exactly - AVG wont affect your system performance at all, unlike Norton as you said.

Yeh AVG is good and basically every other spyware control unit will keep your speed up except norton. Which is the reason i havent bought it.

Try adaware, its free and fantastic for adware.
