dunno about free anti virus software but microsoft do a good anti spyware u can get for free or try spybot.com

If you need to buy any virus/firewall then mcafee is about £25
Norton anti virus and firewall are about £50 to start off and half price when you re install/register after 12 months but there are always special offers around.

You could try deleting ur temporary internet files too and cookies in the 'Tools' then scroll to 'Internet options' and delete them from there.

Keep on top of it and u shud have trouble free useage

Its a small price to pay to keep urself protected.

Have anti spyware as well as firewall and antivirus for best protection

Personalized anti-virus software is a waste of time & money in my eyes. The only time I see that it is useful is when it is on a business / corporate server of some kind. I suggest:

Ad-aware SE Personal
http://www.majorgeeks.com/Ad-Aware_SE_Personal_d506.html

Spybot Search & Destroy
http://www.majorgeeks.com/SpyBot-Search_&_Destroy_d2471.html

Spyware Blaster (prevents many problems)
http://www.majorgeeks.com/SpywareBlaster_d2859.html

Ccleaner (best software)
http://www.ccleaner.com/

XP Anti-Spy

You stated how you have virus problems. You use IE, huh? I recommend you use FireFox. It has many ports closed, which almost all trojans, malware, spyware, virus's etc. need open to be installed on your computer.

The software you named sin is no way enough protection. They will rid your computer of spyware but they dont provide real time protection. A firewall and antivirus is a must have.

Go here for 2 and a half years free of the best there is , use spybot also and ur sorted.

It is definitely excellent protection.

This software + firefox are a perfect solution. Most of the problems come from viewing warez, free pornography sites & search engines. All I do for everyone who needs help is load very simple programs onto their computer & educate them on how to manage their java properly.

Throughout 5 years of surfing the net, I've never had a single virus, trojan, phishing incident or most other things I see when I do some Googling. I also never had personal antivirus software or a firewall of any kind.

Now, if I use a pathetically vulnerable browser like Internet Explorer & go to suspicious websites or open attachments in emails without thinking twice, I would need real-time protection, anti-virus software & updates, SP updates & IE plugins all the time - at all costs.

Ok but y be suspicious of websites at all when u can be safe no matter what u do? It takes no effort to have AV and a firewall installed anyway. The AV will update automatically and the firewall can be left alone. Wats the big fuss guy?

IE tends to leave the user vulnerable to easily-left-unidentified installations of trojans / malware / spyware, etc., and phishing.

I don't think you can ever be 100% safe, but my opinion is that just using firefox alone is as safe as using IE + critical IE updates + AV + firewall. And even that isn't enough to still not be suspicious.

While you're totally right about it not being complicated to install, it can be complicated & troubling in general. Personal AVs like Norton tend to make problems a little more difficult sometimes.

The AV automated update can cause things like java applets / javascript, etc. to be compromised, which was something that frustrated a customer (used to help clean computer viruses & junk like that 2 yrs back).

Anyway, sorry if it seems like a big fuss. It really isn't. I just like to debate sometimes & have a little controversy, I guess. Keep people on their toes! :-)

Not 100% safe but close enough. Wat ur saying isnt as safe, cos I can open files and know that there is a v. good chance that the virus will be removed on the spot. You cant. You can only open files that u know are safe. Where I can take chances and feel safe, you have to be careful.

You can't know you're safe. Malicious files can be unnoticeably opened, without permission, on your computer just by visiting certain websites. I don't see a need for an AV to protect me, when firefox just stops almost all of it completely. Although if someone wants an AV badly enough, the combination of both is better.

On my sister's computer, I used her IE + an AV to download screensavers for her. Even with all the Norton AV's warnings, I ran Ad-aware SE & found about 270 malicious files & 13 folders just because I was on a site of free downloads.

I did it again on purpose using firefox to prove my point, and only 2 pieces of Alexa spyware got into her computer.

Now if I was afraid of a potential virus on a download I requested, I could definitely use an AV & feel safe, yes. I just do not believe that is the only best solution available for that problem (nor does have to take any money out of my pocket).

Ok but panda av will remove the malicious software as soon as its detected so I do know Im safe. If you feel its not the only way fair enough I hope you right
