Its nice to have a big table to play on, but its slowing down all my applications on the computer... can we have it back to the normal size again?

Try this.
go to the instructions page on the left menu then click 'The game window seems incorrectly sized, how do I fix it?'
There is a link at the bottom that should make your screen smaller.
