Her response
"Fair enough I would do the same, have one for me hahahahahahaha."

That is quite shocking to be honest... stupid reason to also get the sack in my opinion. Why not sack someone else. Had the cheek to ask you to work that one day to...

Yeah, unless you were working some sort of shady prostitution ring, which isn't impossible considering it's matty we're talking about, you should look into the terms of your contract.

If you are still under a "probation period" then they are fully within their right just to lay you off, it happened to me a couple of years ago for the same "quietened down" reason.
15:45 Sat 4 May 13 (BST) [Link] ah, maybe laws are different in the UK. Here, they can lay you off for pretty much anything during probation, but have to give you 1 week notice.

Not necessarily, if work quietens down, less income. Less income lower budget, lower budget fewer staff.
Happens all the time. Especially in the current financial climate.

It's horrible working for an agency knowing they can get rid of you at anytime. It's like they are taking the p when they say they are laying you off and then ask you if you'll work the last day, obviously you're going tell them where stick it unless you are stupid.
They get rid of all the British people and keep all foreigners on cause they know they'll work all the hours under the sun for minimum wage, no disrespect to anyone who is foreign but that's exactly how things work in England.
