I'm still not sure why people are calling safeties "tip-tapping". You can't just tap in 9-Ball!! You have to hit it hard enough to catch a cushion at least.

I would never say safety play requires more skill than getting a runout though. That's just ridiculous.
You're telling me it's easier to beat someone with the 3 foul rule than it is to run out? lol.

A good safety that will almost certainly draw a foul is much tougher than a runout, especially when you have to do it three times in a row.

But if my opponent has fouled twice and I see a safety on, why wouldn't I try it? And if everyone thinks it's a bad tactic that doesn't bring results, then they should be happy about it when someone tries it. Not sure where the problem is.

ive played more 9 ball games on this site than anybody on here i do believe and i frankly think its hog wash to tipp tappin to get 3 foul win. if you got a shot and your good enough you can setup for the next 1 but if not than use the snooke rif needed not to carry on the 3 fouls when not needed , its called to me a sissyfied way of winning. if you want to play that kind of pool , what do you think snooker is for/ have agood 1 people

ive 3 fouled him more times than ive had 15 pints and a curry on a saturday, the first time they moan, ometimes u cant but help playinfg for them

I can honestly say for all the times someone has played the safe break against me I cannot remember losing the frame directly from it. They play the safe break, you push out and take the yellow away from the pack without splitting them all. The players doing these breaks 9/10 won't clear so back to normal game. As sarny says, you play a game with the intention of winning. If there is not an easy clear then it's a tactic, it's not dirty. I wouldn't do it in a run of the mill game but some clan time if it gets me a win then 3 fouls it is.

Have to agree with Fran as well, you play to win and if that means 3 fouls so be it

P.S
Id much rather win/lose a game to a 3 foul, rather than a fluke

agreed, especially clan games, you're not just playing for yourself, but for the other 15 players in your clan, do everything it takes to win every last frame! It is a very difficult skill to get 3 snookers in a row (for me anyway) that are difficult to get out of.

i am more of a tactician these days and you need to think a 2 or 3 shots ahead. If clear is easy then go for it but if position is tricky then play safe.

if im honest i would try for snookers if i see an easy chance to give myself an advantage.

Safety play is far superior to a hit and hope. Winning is the object of the game, not popularity.

This being said, everyone against the tapping, your arguments are invalid!

I suppose if we are talking 9 ball and 8 ball us I'm more inclined to agree but I do believe runouts are still more difficult than snookers. But this is simply our difference of opinion. I do understand your point though. In UK though there is one player who would like us to all have jobs that plays safe and isn't really all that good at all and is far overrated. I'm sure most would agree.

in my view it depends on the table and type.

in US8 its balanced but runouts are harder
in US9 i find safety play harder especially the 3 foul rule since i am a mm out on the 3rd snooker, long as you pot on break the good players more often than not make runouts
in UK i find runouts very difficult and safety play is a bit boring
