It has always been like this lol if you don't turn up to a match then you get dq which then leads too losing points for failure to show up.

if you are not intending to play you can always leave the tournament before it starts, and you lose points because it is a punishment for not being able to attend.

It is simply because by entering the tournament you have committed to play in that tournament, you are also warned this after you click "join" when a confirmation message pops up ensuring you are fully committed to play.
A disqualification will lose you the game in any case plus being a ranked tournament will also mean that if you lose, you will lose rank.
I also believe along with the other tournaments you can leave the tournament between the time you enter and the time it starts (This is simply by going to the specific tournament page), This is very handy if something pops up and may require more attention.
I understand being a micro tournament you don't have much time to leave as you only have 2 minutes, but still not impossible.

Back when we only had friendly tournaments
Personally, I think that losing some points is a good thing - it will reduce the amount of people who will just fall and take the DQ because they cannot be bothered, or they are busy when the invite comes.
So next time, if you become busy, hit the 'leave tournament' button on the tournament page
