I just wanted to make a point about how tough the ranking points system can be on Funky.
I just played against a player with ranking of 781.3 points at the start of the games. I started tha games with a rank of 857.7. When we finished playing I was winning 15 frames to 8, and yet my ranking had dropped down to 853.3, a net loss of 4.3 points. My opponent however finished on 787.4, a net gain of 6.1 points.
Phew putting in all that effort for nowt lol, certainly has taught me not to play lower ranks. My point being that my opponent wasn't ranked that much lower than me, and yet even with a 15-8 win I've gone down the ranks. I admire anyone who gets to virt and manages to maintain it, hats off to them.

The whole idea of this is to make sure that players are not "Rank Farming", playing lots of 630's etc, in order to gain massive rankings. This way the gain is little. For a player ranked 900, to play a player ranked 650, the gain for the 900 player would be 0.5 (ish) if that, however the gain for the 650 player would be 6 points +, with a similar decrease in points for the 900 player. The 900 player should win on paper, but even if he goes 10-0 up, one missed shot could cause the points to come tumbling. It means players need to play higher levels in order for their to be less risk to points, and more potential point gain.

I just did a marathon 9 ball tourny earlier which I was lucky enough to win - ....IF..... it had been ranked I estimate I would have lost 9 ranking points (best guess).... (and your prize for winning is a lower ranking - great lol)

But as someone who plays lots of lower rank games it is tough when u lose. I got hit for 13 pts in UK ranked today by 2x 760 ranked players in 3 games - after winning 5 one pt games against various 760 players I then beat another 760 player 8-0 to regain those pts ( I was lucky to win 8 in a row - thanks SGF ggs!!).

As Janmb has pointed out on many occasions it is just as hard to maintain ranking playing either high or low ranks and many low ranks love playing the higher rank players but are not often given the chance.

For me when I'm working at home, with headset on speaking on fone, I find playing lower ranks allows me lapses in concentration, whereas a high ranked player would not give me a second chance. Either way it is tough to maintain virt status......

When I was 960 straight rank I lost a game to a 690 player - that player got 9.5 pts and I lost 9.4 points. I played same player again and won 0.4 pts so in theory 20++ games later against same player I could win those ranking pts back, assuming I don't lose again...............

I nearly made it to virtuoso status, got up to 897.8 points, but never seem to be able to get past 870 these days. Oh well looks like I'll have to stop moaning about the system and put in some more practice. Thanks for your comments guys and gals.

I did the same thing, hit 897, then dropped to 780. But i got there in the end

then mearly play anyone above 800+ only, i maintained a 900-920 ranking in UK8 for 3 months on my previous user by only playing those who are ranked 800+.

It is tough to get their and maintain it however if the player (in your case) was around 70 points lower you are more likely to lose alot more then gain. try to maintain a 820+ game once you hit 850 onwards and you should be fine.
