Does anyone else find when in a tourny room waiting for your opponent to turn up, especially speed tournys, and they turn up at the last second and you end up getting dq'd for time very occasionally. I find this very annoying and think there should be a fairer way than both getting knocked out.

For example, first to the room goes through. This would discourage people from going to the room so late and get tournys moving a bit quicker also.

Just an idea.

Don't enter tournaments and this won't happen

But in all seriousness, people could be playing without sound and they could be browsing the internet.

Like me,

9/10 times, I usually arrive at the last second because i am playing a game on facebook or having a cigarrette.

Bad idea IMO...

That would mean you could arrive 1 second after the other player and less than a minute into a game, the other person deliberately plays slow and doesnt pot anything plays constant safeties and they would go through

why not start a different time then once the break off shot is taken - would solve everything - might add a couple of minutes but would seem the fairest thing to do

You have to draw the line with time limits somewhere. Where do you draw that line? The time limit is there so people are not going to be too late and cause a hassle for the rest of the tournament.

But at the same time, there is a time limit on playing so both players dont just tap the balls around for a couple of hours and cause a hassle to every other tournament player.

Its unfair for the first person to be able to go through. You have to draw a line somewhere and three minutes to accept the invite is where the line is drawn. Maybe we can move the line in someway, but I think the current system is still fair.

The time limit to join a game is only ever a problem because it eats into the total time limit for the game to finish, combined with the lack of a chess clock system.

In a chess clock system, where the slower player being the one risking being DQed, having a fixed time limit for joining the game like we currently do would be no problem at all.

In a chess clock system.....

But what if you are doing other things online at the same time as playing the game? I rarely have my full attention devoted to Funkypool when I am playing in a game (I do when I am in the chat room and people are chatting).

In all serriousness and fairness, you cant expect anyone to have their full attention devoted to the game. Normally I know when it is my shot - and maybe one shot out of every five is when I get the five second warning.

But thats the main problem with the chess clock system - many people have other things to do while they are online.

The idea of sending the earlier player through when time runs out is an idea, but unfortunately it's open to abuse. When I read that though, I thought of perhaps sending the earlier player through if that player had arrived before the 1 minute warning (i.e. when 2 out of the 3 minutes of the invite period have elapsed) and the other has yet to arrive. It's still open to abuse though. And what I mean in both cases is that the earlier player might deliberately slow the game down and go through that way, although maybe this is not a problem.

But then I took a look at the tournament details for the 8 Ball UK Speed Tournament currently underway, and included in there is the same thing that appears in each and every tourney: ...plus 210 seconds invite period... That's to say, the 3 minutes at the start of each tournament match (speed, regular, marathon, etc) is factored into the start of every round. It's an extra three minutes on top of the allotted time, as such. That's my take on it anyway.
