I asked clooneman about this, he did say there was a thread about it but could not find it at all way to many pages so i may have flicked by it, but he said by all means make new discussion about it.

anyway....

In real life straight pool you can pot 2 balls and still carry on your run with that 2 ball pot counting as 1, this game is good except that rule on here, everyother game has the proper rules applied to it so why has straight not been created the same, many people dispise this rule so maybe a solution?

People hating the rule is a huge evidence the rule is good in my book.

The obvious intention is to make the game skillful and make mashing balls a less viable strategy. One can always discuss how similar or relevant that is to real life straight pool, but in the end of the day the ultimate question is what works best for the game here on this site.

Besides, any comparison to "real" rules is kinda moot until we get some kind of calling pockets implemented anyways - since that's a given requisite for many pool games, including straight.

Because to do that you have to make the game work in such a way that you have to nominate the ball and the pocket it's going in to.

Only if you pot your nominated ball in the nominated pocket do second, third etc potted balls then count.

To introduce nominations would be a big difference and, from previous discussions, not be too popular either.

The fact remains that fluked pots (unless I am guessing you happen to fluke it into the pocket you nominated) end your run too. To have 'proper rules' again you would have to deal with that issue.

Nomination of ball and pocket is the only way you would ever get 'proper rules'.

I think the current game strikes the right balance of skill and luck within the constraints of the simple gameplay/engine that the majority love about funkypool.

* much as jan beat me to above

Id die if i had to call pockets for every shot, would be so boring lol. The 2 rule does sometimes suck but i think its a needed rule, and it is possible to get high runs as we have seen, just need to play better lol

Keep it as it is in my opinion!!

I have had this done to me many times and admittedly I get frustrated as many others do but I bet if their opponent did this they would not complain.

There are many threads on this discussion, just use the search bar at the bottom of the "Game Queries" page.

Call pockets would be rubbish i have played on a few sites with that rule and 20 secs to shoot, its annoying you have to look at table for best shot to take, by that time you have possibly lost maybe what 10 secs of time so you rush shot and all hell breaks lose. Also its not an official rule to call a pocket, in some leagues and stuff it is but some it is not. But in straight pool you can pot 2 ball and carry on, you wouldnt see 250+ runs and stuff if it was a rule that you cant pot 2 at once. ( should check out some of the runs on youtube )

what is everyones best run in real life? i got a 134 cant improve it, i changed cue after i broke my last one,

was only asking a solution for it simple answer yes or no please haha.

Lol, I hate that rule more than anyone lol , I've lost a game 35-1 once because I potted 2 everytime i took a shot, and believe me, this is no exaggeration. But, I think the rule should stay, gives us a challenge makes us play the game more and more. Check me out at straightKeep it how it is lol.

Btw, my 1 loss was to mich and, yes, we were both mahosively rubbish lol.

Im 50-50

dont like the rules because theirs times when the only option is for me to pot 2 balls or the likelihood is i will pot two balls

and also i often pot a second ball even when grazing the re-rack causing my run to end, but i know people who just pot the balls without setting up a shot to break the pack with positioning and then whack the pack and completely fluke 1 pot (which the 2 balls rules means that this is even flukier than if they just whacked the pack and potted without the rule as they specifically need to pot just one not more)

but it does stop the occasional 'whack the pack' but some players are always going to just whack it, and most times they get just the one, frustrating for me who tends to pot more than one ball on breaks

People moan about going into the pack claiming that more times than not they pot a 2nd ball resulting in the end of their turn. If you play enough games you know exactly where to hit the pack without another one going in. It's just a matter of learning that.

Keep the rules as they are, nothing wrong with them.
