With darts games the biggest problem is how to implement the throwing.

Pretty much same as for pool:
1: Set desired aiming point (simply click on the board)
2: Make the throw: Click and hold, pull back, move forward, let go at the right time to release the dart...
A straight, purely y-axis mouse motion is the goal for a perfect throw.
The power vs release point makes up the precision in the y axis of the board. The errors induced by power/release mistakes need to be kept fairly limited to avoid making it too hard. Some tuning needed for sure.
Secondly, the mouse x axis is used to introduce misses along the board's x axis. On the forward move, moving to the right makes you miss right... Fairly straight forward.
A good reference would be the input system used by the Tiger Woods golf games - pretty identical to what I described here, just except the release part.

Perhaps the same way as shooting a shot on pool? power dependant on stroke?

I have actually pondered the idea of darts a while ago but didn't know how it would work etc.
But this is a good idea, and with Pool, Snooker and Darts; its beginning to be a pub sport site (except for the mini golf)
Good idea, im all for it if it can work.

I would suggest in the same way we take shots on here, mouse down - mouse up... power dependant on speed, accuracy dependant on how straight the movement is...

I'll do what the admins seem to like doing, copy what Jan said
You could have the same sort of thing as on here
I struggle on the flyordie darts game. Miniclip has a darts game which is alright called "Bullseye". But that isn't multiplayer like flyordie
