EDIT: Please don't advise users to avoid adverts - no adverts would mean no free site.

ahhh Sorry to be a bother, but today all im getting is the Roulette ad.

And, everytime when that ad//banner comes up... when i move my cursor in the table, the cursor is now laggy and jittery, and when i shoot its even worse lag and jittery.

Anyone know what i can do or how this can be resolved?

Thanks for your time and consideration to read this and no rush and sorry to be a bother again.

onua i will message you with a solution. I fully support ad revenue, but not at the expense of making the game unplayable, even if it is only a minority of people who are affected.

EDIT

To Nick.

Is there a real need to have ads running on the table screen when we already have a page open with ads running? I know they keep the site free and running, but to me it's like a TV station putting ads in the corner whilst you watch your favorite show. Also premium owners on snooker have the pleasure of not looking at distracting flashing ads (obtrusive despite being told they are not) and you 'do' still keep them on the homepage, so you are able to do this if we pay.

My point is the recent revamp seems to have increased the ability to squeeze ads into different places. We now see them between forum posts, wedged between our profiles, so why can't you drop the game window ads and have the game play like it was intended.

Could you explain in technical terms if need be why the ads must to be on the game window in the first place. Would the site cease to exist if ads only appeared on forum pages etc.

Is there 'any' room for compromise at all, because this issue with ads has plagued people for years.

the lag experienced by some players (inc me obviously!) has nothing to do with the internet connection, its the flash ad's that slow the browser to a crawl.

That's from 3 years ago.

From a games designer point of view, I would prefer to remove the game adverts completely - it would enable a smoother experience and more space to show the table. However, a significant proportion of the adverts (and hence revenue) are from the adverts on the game page.

I'm looking into bringing premium over to funkypool (same price, £10 per year) for those that want an advert free game playing experience.

The new in-line adverts within the content area only show for visitors. If you're logged in it will show a maximum of one advert (it showed two before the revamp).

Please don't encourage the use of blocking adverts. WIthout adverts there will be no free site.

I don't understand why people would reveal they are using advert blockers. Independent sites are adversely affected by advert blockers (usually to a greater degree than the bigger companies) as often we are completely dependent on it.

One reasonable rationale behind such thinking (regardless of being "right" or not) would be that since they have already spent their bandwidth downloading the advert (which you do regardless of ad blockers), whether or not they choose to have the browser display the downloaded material or not ought to be their own business.

Now, back in the days when I grew up (which pretty much means the same time the Internet grew up as well lol), this line of thought would been sensible. Ads back then were 99% based on actual downloads of the ad itself. Now though, most ad revenues are generated not based on downloading the ads, but on the hits they generate when people actually click them and look at the content they link to.

So yes, these days, not showing ads kinda defeats their purpose and the revenue they generate for this and similar sites. Given that you ever click on any of them of course

I should clarify that I understand why people would use an advert blocker - but I don't understand why they'd be proud of it (similar to saying "I went to the pub last night and everyone got a round in but me, a free night out!").

A person may choose whether to display the downloaded material but it's within the rights of any site to block access for those found using advert blocking software. If enough people block adverts then there's no more funkypool in it's current form and there's no way around that.

The implicit terms of use this site is that you can use the game for free so long as you view the adverts. If someone doesn't like these terms they of course have the right to use a different site.

Again, the logic there might very well be the idea that they are only hurting the advertisers and not the site. Which in most ways would be true, but far from entirely.

^^ The problem with that logic here is that the Advertisers have lost nothing, but the site has/does.

Lets clarify a few things -

Using ad blockers is against the sites terms and members doing so will eventually find their accounts banned.

Flash ads, properly designed, do not noticably affect gameplay. Improperly designed ads can do so, and have been removed in the past when noticed.

I invested a lot of time on this a few years back and found my problem to be a conflict between my graphics drivers and flash. Nothing to do with the site nor the ad provider. Conflicts like these are always possible, note your version numbers and hit google, you'll soon see if you have a common problem.

Always remember, before going on a rant - there are hundreds of players on funkypool (and snooker) - how many do you see posting with these issues?
