only just found this out.

BBC NEWS said:
A European Union ban on the manufacture and import of 100 watt and frosted incandescent light bulbs, in use since the 19th Century, has come into force.

The EU wants the bulbs to be replaced mainly by longer-lasting compact fluorescent lamps.

The Energy Saving Trust says fluorescent lighting uses 80% less electricity than traditional bulbs.

But campaigners say the new bulbs can trigger health problems in people with light-sensitive medical conditions.

They are also more expensive than traditional bulbs, although save money in the long run.

Dated: 1 September 2009.

Lots of people use 100W bulbs for heating purposes as well though, something no "energy saving" bulb can do.

(If you wonder why I put energy saving in quotes, have a look at the cost of recycling them!)

I'm not in any way against legislation to point people in the right direction environmentally etc, but please lets have someone with even a slight understanding of the real life practicalities involved somewhere along the line...

all the lights in my house are on energy bulbs but my room has a 150w bulb due to having a remote dimmer switch as energy saving does not work
