I've noticed that there are lots of players on here who stop playing for points the minute they have a rank of 800.0. Ok, so this takes you to pro level but why then only play friendly or tournament games only. Are you all scared of losing your pro status and not getting it back? Personally I can't be bothered with friendly games. Thoughts??

I think the only answer is 'to each their own'. There's no set way of enjoying your time on here.

I have often wondered, though, whether the daily reductions ought not be constant for everybody of every ranking above the 675 level rather than stopping at 800. That would be more in keeping with genuine ranking boards in sports where inactivity means you invariably slip non-stop to the bottom (which in this case would be 675).

5) Daily reduction: a small amount is reduced from the top player's ranking.
To prevent player's simply retiring when they are top of the rankings a small amount is chopped of their ranking daily.

The rule is a 1 point drop for any user with a ranking over 925.0, a 0.8 point drop for any user with a ranking over 900.0, a 0.5 point drop for any user with a ranking over 850.0 and a 0.3 drop for users with a ranking over 800.0.

To ensure ranking drop doesn't change order of any 2 players the amount dropped for people close to the above limits is limited. An example, someone over 900.0 could only be reduced to a minimum of 899.50 (900.0 - 0.50).

I honestly don't have time to play ranked games often enough to stay above 800.

The reasoning behind having a higher limit is to reflect to some degree a players ability, since many people equate that with rank.

If we were to have some sort of global measure of ability, based on all games, then yes, the ranking points could be left to fall to beginner level over time.

I wonder would that mean that players below 675 would float up to 675?
Just my 2 cents...

I don't even play ranked games. I'm only on here for the tournaments, due to my competitive nature. I've never even attempted to become pro.

its up to the player if they want to continue playing or not.

I agree that a smaller deduction for those under 800 would be a good idea, but with the current system - if they want to stay at 800, well then that is up to them.

Pretty much sums it up.

A lot of people don't have the resources to fight daily reductions across 5 game types, but still want to have a decent overall rank.... A simple way to do that is to "park" one or more game types at 800.0. Nothing wrong with that really.

I remember a few years back loads of players stopped at around 850.

I dont think its an issue at 800 as it doesnt make any ranking tables in any game type.

As to why people stop well I stopped for a very long time as I didnt want to commit and its irritating lol.

I mean as in a tournament way. You don't know who you'll be drawn against, and anything can happen in a game. Also the fact there's something to win, to aim for. In ranked you can pick your opponent, and the only thing you can really aim for is a milestone (700, 800) or a top 10 place. Tournaments are much more exciting
