Request Time

I was thinking it would be a good idea to have a button to request 45 seconds in ranked & friendly games.

you could use it for a hard shot or to answer the door quickly etc.

I suggest that you can only use this button once per game. (because of time wasters)

your thoughts?

there is already an option for 40 seconds, and the next highest being 60 seconds.

I am sure that you do not have to answer the door at every shot - I understnad that you can be busy at times, but I suggest to bump it up to 40 seconds.

If anything, I would bump the 40 seconds to 45 seconds (exaclty halfway between 30 and 60 seconds then) - and then that may solve any issues that 40 seconds doesnt cover.

What i think he means is that, if you select lets say 10 seconds a shot in a game, there will be an emergency button to press for additional time to play the shot, that you can only press once in the game......

If that is what you meant i think its a bad idea, the chance of being distracted for so long that you'd need to add(however amount of time) to the game is unrealistic.

oh...i get now.

I agree with the concept, but I think that 45 seconds is too long.

I think a 30 second booster would be good - as a one off in each frame - and maybe as a twist in tournaments make three available at any time during the match.

i like the idea - but 45 seconds seems too long for my liking.

I do like this idea a lot, but, i think the 1 extension per rack should double the time your meant to have on the shot in that game. So if it was a 10 secs game it would double that to 20 secs and if it was a 40 secs game it would double up to 80.

I prefer the original idea to Damee's. Sometimes a ten second boost may not be enough to cover whatever may have happened, such as answering the door. Plus, a ninety second game is long enough, let alone someone playing a shot that takes 180 seconds. A thirty second boost would cover most things and yet not be too long on the opposition player(s).

However, in a tournament game and opponent could try to abuse this to get a double DQ rather than just losing, an extra ninety seconds may make the game too long, especially in speed tournaments. So maybe the length of time of each round may need to be revised as well.

Since when do speed tournys have a 90 second shot clock though?

I never said that. If, as aflumpire said, if in tournaments three 30s boosts are made available at any time during the match then that'll total a 90second boost.

Either that or keep it down to just one per tournament game, which'll give a 30 second boost overall.

As you will see if you read back, I'm strongly against this idea, since everyone knows the time limit before a match starts.

One of the reaons I always play 10 second games is because of the added pressure it gives. If you know you have (with an additional 30s, lets say) 40s avaliable once per game whenever you like, the pressure and need to plan ahead is gone.

That said, I do understand whats being requested, but think it should not be avaliable in 10 second games, however in 20 second+ games where time is of no relevance to normal game play , it can do no harm.

I think it ought to be 60 (in order to make any real difference toward the goal of the original poster at all).

As long as it's kept to a single time per game I see no problem with it, it could also be an option when creating the game whether to enable this or not - possible even as a second shot clock, allowing you to adjust the duration as you like.

I hear what you're saying Dave, but it almost sounds like you think the time pressure is the only, or main, reason to plan ahead... If that's the case, I'd say you need to play better opponents more of the time and see how far you get without good positioning throughout a game - regardless of 10 sec vs. 90 sec shot clock

I agree on not adding this for 10 sec games anyway, or at least keep it short like for Damien's idea (then again that voids the purpose of this in the first place), but it has got everything to do with time pressure and nothing what so ever to do with planning your game. Planning your game is every bit as important in slower games and in fact you typically get more well-planned positioning there since you have the time to plan more and better.

There wouldn't, couldn't and shouldn't be any need for a time boost button in a speed tourney, for obvious reasons.

Whoops, did not see that, my bad, although someone mentioned a speed tourney elsewhere on this thread and I thought I might add my two cents.
