Get out while you can! That game stole 2 years of my life and I was in and out of it for another year... lol
I don't think it's as good as used to be before the expansion packs, or maybe that's because I became jaded after being in it for a while.
But with you being a new player, everything will feel fresh, and it can be a lot of fun. It depends what you want out of it I suppose.
The main draw for me was the social aspect of the game. In fact that's probably why I played for as long as I did, just to chat to the friends I'd made.
I found levelling my character to be a lot of fun when I first started, the PvE side of it is great, I had fun just doing things at the slower pace of the game back then, and exploring the world... but the last time I tried that (a few months ago), it wasn't as much fun as it's too fast to level now, and I found that there weren't as many people to group with at lower levels, although that may have been to do with the server I was on.
Once you hit the top level, it's pretty much a constant grind for getting armour, weapons, crafting materials, gold or increasing your reputation with certain factions and taking part dungeon raids for hours on end (that's the part I hated, but each to their own).
I didn't like the PvP side of the game... In my opinion the best MMO for PvP, if that's your thing, is EVE Online (great game, although that's a spaceship type of game), or Warhammer: Age of Reckoning.

I have never purchased this game, and the reason being is I know I would become addicted to it. I once played a game similar named The World (based on the dotHack series) and I was enraptured. Got myself out of that as quick as I could and I know this would be worse.
It's all up to you of course. I don't have the time to pour my life into those games anymore, but then, some people like that kind of thing.

I don't think I'd become addicted to it myself, just bored.
