Please help.
My mate got her email hacked and they sent abusive emails to her contacts.
Is there any way to trace the emails to find out who done it?

Depends how clever the person who did the hacking was i think mate!
You can't trace everything, i get emails from my bank everyday off the email address they actually send mail off but its just a scammy spam message to get my details.....no idea how they do it so it looks like its coming from my bank!
Good luck with it, hopefully its just an idiot who can be easily traced

Talk to your ISP (Internet Service Provider) and see if they can trace the I.P...

If you delete the message, they send another one within 24 hours.
I have started leaving them, and I find I get a lot less of them, I went almost a week last week without a secure message from Egg, HSBC, Alliance and Leicester, Barclays or Capital One!

There is no way the sender of an email can know whether or not you delete it, so that has no relation Mike.
My guess is, they send you a new one anyway, as long as the mail does not bounce.
Regarding the topic - What you can and cannot do depends entirely on what email provider you have. If it is email from your ISP, contacting them should sort it out.
If it's a third party email (like hotmail, yahoo, etc), things can be more difficult. I guess most of those are registered with a secondary/backup email address which you possibly still have, so in that case they might be able to reset and send you a new password - closing off access for the ones who have hijacked your account.

Thanks for your help.
I also get loads of emails from "banks", although only one or two are reporting to be from the bank im actually with.
I never bother with them, but I have noticed that when I hover over the link it generally leads to some forum in a foreign country. Some have even linked to TinyURL!
