This afternoon's 8 Ball Speed Tourny winner is given as Not Found at http://www.funkypool.com/viewTournament.do?tournamentid=25908 and on the tournament page. However, this has to be wrong.

speed tourney finals are the best of 3/first to 2. The final was between phillyboy2k9 and guinnessman3. Now, go to either of their results pages http://www.funkypool.com/viewPlayerResults.do?name=phillyboy2k9 and http://www.funkypool.com/viewPlayerResults.do?name=guinnessman3 and you'll see these results. From the bottom up, they are:

15:49 Mon 03/11/08
8 Ball Tournament - phillyboy2k9 (0) loses to guinnessman3 (1) on the black

15:53 Mon 03/11/08
8 Ball Tournament - guinnessman3 (1) loses to phillyboy2k9 (1) with 3 balls remaining

15:58 Mon 03/11/08
8 Ball Tournament - guinnessman3 (1) loses to phillyboy2k9 (2) with 1 ball remaining

So, what do we have? We can see that the game has recorded a 2-1 scoreline for phillyboy2k9, but it did not give him the win!!! This is clearly a mistake. His profile and Significant Events don't show a win. So what the holy guacamole happened?????

Hmm... Can we take Cloone's spare time away from his hands please lol.

That is strange. Maybe the time ran out as the final shot was taken... This way, the 8 ball would have been travelling to the pocket, both got DQ'd, but the server was tricked into thinking it was a win for phillyboy as the 8 ball shot had been taken before time but had entered the pocket after time...

Maybe I shouldn't be answering these questions...

Yes, but Cloone's point is that on the players result page, it shows a 2-1 win for phillyboy, when a speed tourney final is a race to 2.

In other words, if the FP server can see that phillyboy2k9 won a second game, why would DQ them both? It would be a shame if the timer went out during the shot but the tournament was programmed to kick them both out before the completion of the shot.

Yip, saw the Not Found and wondered was it cos of a double no-show or slow play. Couldn't understand why it said "8 Ball Tournament - guinnessman3 (1) loses to phillyboy2k9 (2) with 1 ball remaining" if no-one could have scored 2 frames, but it did. So an obvious mistake has taken happened. As I said above, if the FP server can see that phillyboy2k9 won a second game, why would it DQ them both?

Cloone, in my case was playing in a uk speed tourney a few months back. The guy turned up at the last second, then didn't respond for ages. Then came alive with a couple of minutes left. He gave me a chance and I was clearing the balls as quickly as I could, and when the black was rolling towards the pocket a message came up that we were out of time, just as the black dropped. On my results page it came up with a win on the black. Don't know what happens when there is still a few balls left on the table when you get out of time. Does it count as an abandoned game anyone?

Wouldn't* think so if it records the win.

So it seems that the tournament "object" (I'm guessing there's a bit of OOP** involved in FP ) sees that the match hasn't reached the required target and declares the tie as DQ-DQ, even though the game object hasn't yet had an end put to it by the tournament, because nothing can happen in the middle of a shot (I believe). The black drops, FP says the frame ends in victory to someone, but the tournament object has already decided it's game over.

Obviously though, this is inconsistent with sporting principles. I mean if it's gonna let the last shot be played and record the frame as having being finished, then surely a tournament win must be awarded? Is there any way for nick or the other admins to manually manipulate, in such obvious circumstances, some stats like a player's tournament wins and significant events?

Nice cloone, agree there, I was just wondering if for instace you're in a marathon final, its 3-3, you are half way through the 7th game and you run out of time, do you still carry on to finish that game (wouldn't have thought so) or does the game just end and the unfinished 7th game is not recorded in your stats.

Correct. I've seen as a spectator and been involved as a player in games that ran out of timw before the black shot. And the black shot never comes; the game ends instead. I.e., you don't go on to finish that game. But I don't believe it shows up as an abandoned stat. It definitely doesn't show up in your results page. That's what I expected to see on http://www.funkypool.com/viewPlayerResults.do?name=phillyboy2k9 and http://www.funkypool.com/viewPlayerResults.do?name=guinnessman3 - no result of a third frame. But there was, so phillyboy2k9 should have a tournament under his belt now.
