when i was playing a game and i only had one ball left before the black, i hit my last colour ball in and after it had gome in the pocket my white ball rebounded and hit the black in. but just as i started to celebrate my excelent winning shot i see i've lost- why?

Section N (Loss of the frame); Rule 3:

3. Potting the Eight Ball and the last ball or balls of the player's own Colour in the same shot


My favourite one is Section N; Rule 7:

7. If a player breeches the "Spirit of the Game" to such an extent that the frame (or match) should be awarded to the opponent.





Also, Section D (Object of the game); Rule 2:

2. When "On" a group of colours, potting more than one ball of that Colour in the same shot is allowed. But a separate shot must be played to pot the Eight-Ball and win the game.

okay fine, though i think would be better if that rule was only if you pot the black before the colour but guess there's nothing no one can do about that

Well, you may or may not find it illogical, but as I understand it, that rule is pretty standard in most pool games.

Yip. You can't pot the black until you are on the black, and you can't be on the black until after the end of the shot which legally pots the last ball(s) of your group. You don't become on the black the instant your last balls enters the pocket before the end of the shot. When you pot the last ball and the black in the same shot, you have never been on the black and therefore you lose the game.
