Hello

I am running a thread right now, and I'd like to edit the top two posts sometimes. However, I don't have the "Edit" option any more. This causes me a problem, as I would like to edit the top 2 for updates on what I'm running, but now I can't.

I'd like this to be fixed, so you could edit posts at any time

Not sure if that's the case here on FP, but it's very common on forums in general not to be able to edit posts once they have one or more replies/follow-ups.

The simple reason being that editing a post also implicit changes the replies, or more precisely, changes what the replies are replying to...

A simple example:

You post: I like icecream!
Me: I completely agree!
You edit your first post to: I love to beat my wife!

Now that doesn't make my post look very good, now does it? You get the drift...

Anyways, not sure if that's the case we're talking about here, but at least it's a common way for forums to work, and IMO a sensible one.

That is what quoting is for

I've been on another forum where I could edit the first post, and it was pretty good. I think when it comes to something like trying to run your own league, you may want to repeatedly edit the top posts, for updates and so on. I know that is what creating websites can be for, but I can't put the link in the top posts either

On pool and snooker, you can edit your post upto 4 hours after the original post. Since the 4 hours have passed since you posted it, you can't edit it

True enough, but not all people do that when you comment on a small post directly below it.

There's another thing which would be good, being able to change the text colour and also changing text size.

And for the editing posts I personally don't think the ''edit 22/5/08 or something should be there if you have edited more than once.

That's my thoughts anyway.

True, but people who would edit their post to make the other person look stupid isn't very mature. Most people post on forums to express their opinions, not to make others look stupid by your example. Perhaps you could have an "edit" thing for like the top few posts in a thread, for updates and so on?

This may seem a bit random, but bear with it :

the way the forum editing system works just nwo is excellent for all cases except the situation you mention.

Rather than try to customise a certain area of the forums, or specific threads, how about an Events page, laid out differently, where an event runner could post fixtures and results (reported via forum/message/live as they are now) and update as necessary.

Events really seem to have taken off again recently and something like this may help make things easier to follow for all.

good idea spinner but dont forget, you can just use the bottom of the page like everyone here has to to place in a new post.

if you are using similar information, then why cant you use copy and paste? Thats what I have to do and it doesnt harm anyone.

but otherwise a good idea spinner, but as jan said, you got to be careful of changing things around like in her (funny) example...it can happen there, so it may need extra moderating. can the current team handle a new section?

With the single exception of your taste in web browsers, your thoughts are as reflected and brilliant as always Dave
