I've tried FF, IE an Opera of different versions and never saw any real difference when it comes to performance on this site.
There is any number of good reasons to choose other browsers than IE in general tho, so don't hesitate to give other browsers a try.

I would choose google chrome to help get rid of the lag
At the moment google chrome seems to be working just fine with funkypool, much better than internet explorer and firefox. Google chrome will be much better once its out of Beta version.
Thanks
kindness

Many people (including me) found a big difference in performance when IE7 came out. For me the game went from unplayable to excellent.
Most recent browsers are about the same on a higher end system, but everything depends on your individual setup, so experimenting to find the one that suits you best is the best option.
If you are running windows, IE7 is generally the best due its OS integration meaning very low processor and memory usage, thus leaving plenty of resouces free to run the game.
Conversely, Firefox is the most common browser to cause problems, mostly due to its extremely high processor and memory usage (especially if the user has plugins installed)
Google's Chrome is certainly very good, so far i've personally been unable to stall it and the user interface (especially the IE8 style dynamic tabs) is brilliant.

I only wish I could drag the pool table into my main browser as a tab

zapp, those lag messages were something I was trying out overnight to prevent inconsistent cueing action which affected some users occasionally. It wasn't working correctly but has been fixed now.
deuce2, why would you want to play the game in a tabbed panel?

are you using IE7 or the new IE8 which is only in beta version yet thats what im using not really havin a problem with lag when using IE8 (i have made a topic about the problems im having with IE8 ) as kindness said lag could do with anything on ur computer(you could have other programs openned in the background that workin maybe doing scans or your computer could be that bit old) im going back to IE7 because i never has a problem with it
Ps it could be vista itself ya never know (that does need a lot of power) thats if your running vista
