This is my understanding of what Nick meant for this:

The break, with or without follow-up, is a turn.

Any turn in which you pot, is a success. Any turn where you do not, is a failure.

For the break, that means that it is counted as a success if you pot on the break itself or the follow-up. If you pot on neither, it is a failure.
