Ok...my mouse has been playing up for some time now and i have put up with it zooming across the page by itself and closing and opening programms left right and centre, but today it has decided to stop working altogether apart from my right mouse button ( but that just brings up a whole menu of choices and doesn't do what i want it to).
I have tried to go into Start Menu - Control Panel - Mouse Options blah blah bla and change it from there to my left button but i don't know how to Tick the box without the use of my mouse.

Any help would be greatly appreciated! Just to add...I'm very blonde when it comes to computers so step by step instructions is whats needed.

Thanks

First thing is, is it an optical mouse or an old fasioned one with a ball in the base?

If its an old ball mouse, you can take the ball out and clean it and the various bits it runs against. (all are different, but a quick look should show how to get it out)

If its an optical mouse, and there is no light coming from it, there isnt much you can do, it may well be dead

Yes it is an old roller ball mouse, i have cleaned the ball before but has made no difference, have just cleaned all the inside aswell and tried to go back into the mouse options to change the selected button from right to left, but it's still not working.

Thanks anyway Spinner

hey orchid
balls or not, mice do run out of cheese and the wheels need replacing...... with a light beam(optical) my advice is buy a cheap one...
say £10 max as they all fail eventually, unless ur a gaming addict then get a gaming mouse
up to thee tho (mine cost me £6 and has done fine)
