why so slow 20 people playing 16 on bye thats stupid

Actually it's not stupid at all
The entire point is that the next round always tries to get 2, 4, 8, 16, 32, 64, etc number of players so all games can be filled.
If there were 20 players total, that means you have to eliminate 4 players in round one to get 16 for round two.
