First time poster, long time player - be gentle with me ...
You know how someone beats you then disappears?
How you might have annihilated them, downing all your balls before they even pot one, but then get some really unlucky kiss on the black off your last ball going in and you lose the game? Your opponent realises they're out of their depth and promptly scarper, leaving you with a bitter taste in your mouth?
Good ... so it's not just me then.

Well, anyway .. it kinda got me to thinking.

THEC H A L L E N G E MATCH
You select the game you want to join as normal, but are given the option of 1, 3, 5, 7 or 9 games as a best of the series match. If someone leaves, you're given a default 2 pts for each game they didn't play (like a 3-0 win in football when a team breaks the rules or doesn't turn up).

Is it be possible to do this?
Do you agree it would lead to a more satisfying match experience and persuade people to play more fairly?

i do kind of like this idea, but there will be a lot of factors ... 2 pts per game . even if a 900 leaves against a 650 .... as a norm they wud lose about 4.8 against em .... or a 650 leaving against the 900 and they get 2 pts per game not played ..... the 900 would have a feild day as the norm they wud win would have been about 0.5

there cud be a lot of rule breaking with this type .. for example a m8 plays a m8 trying to give points and leaves in a 1st to 9 ... thats 18 points ... 9 games x 2 points = 18. and it would be hard to notice if they only did this like once every now and then

all in all i like the aspect of the game being set like tournaments etc ( has to be played to a certain amount of lose the rest by default )

Keep up the nice ideas, hope nick trys to incorporate this into funkypool but has a lot of faults to try get around :P

I'm not so sure, what if you had a tournament invite as soon as you started one?
(ok, you shouldn't be in the tournament then i hear you say) But i'm not alone when i say i play a few games waiting for my 1st invite, so that would be a negative factor.

Another one is the freedom, if people want to play one game, let them! People can simply ask if they want a race to 5 or whatever, and also naming the room "race to 5 adept" or something similar.

if the played leaves via a tourny invite it just makes em lose the 1 game and make all others NULL :P

How do you know people are scarpering?

Maybe they have to get back to work or something...

Just because they leave after 1 game, doesnt make them sore losers or wimps or whatever other insults people say...

There maybe a legitimate reason why people leave...

So, as for the idea, I dont think it will work as people have to leave at a momements notice!

As mc_quiston said, name it as a race to 5 or something...
