i swear i saw an even more recent thread on snooker with more discussion than this one but as you can see it is a thread that keeps coming back showing the support for it

Yes this is a recurring idea.

Polls have been vetoed in the past (as mentioned on the snooker thread) due to not being a reliable decision making tool compared to discussion forums.

For example, someone may suggest an idea, doesn't explain it very well, 100 people vote no, then someone else explains it better and those 100 people now think its a good idea but cant vote again.

Discussions which work up to an agreed solution are much better.

However, if you mean a simple "Spice Girls or Oasis" type poll on general chat, then why not.
